Internship programmes enable students to undergo certain responsibilities and learn firsthand experiences. Our Commerce students take part in summer internship programs.

IHS is uniquely poised to engage students and parents in the internship process and has two unique responsibilities:

  • developing curricula that will incorporate workplace experience as an integral requirement for meeting educational outcomes; and
  • guiding students through a self-and-career exploration process and into workplace learning experiences that can best meet the students' educational goals.

School and teachers can benefit from the Internship Program in the following ways:

  • receiving direct information as to the skills that students will need in the working world, which serves as input to the curriculum;
  • learning new teaching methods from the experience of organizational trainers;
  • having students be more motivated to learn, improving their performance as they see how academic knowledge relates to the "real world";
  • giving students the opportunity to learn both in more "integrated" ways and ways that allow for "hands-on" activities, thus honoring differing learning styles and, again, increasing motivation;
  • forging links with the community that can lead to other types of resource sharing, including guest speakers, field trips, scholarships, and job shadowing opportunities.

Internship Guidelines

Seeking internship opportunity

  • The school will offer internship opportunities depending on the needs of the school and on the individual talents and interests of each candidate. Some interns may have full responsibility for teaching classes under the supervision of a mentor, while others may serve as teaching assistants, or substitutes in a variety of classes. Interns can also assist with clubs and sports, and are expected to contribute to the general school community as much as possible.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required from the parent of the applicant (under the age of 18).
  • A letter from the university with guidelines for the internship is required (where applicable).
  • The intern will not be financially compensated. There is no remuneration/TA/DA paid to the interns.
